Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an Audiologist and Hearing Instrument Specialist?

Audiologist hold either a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Audiology. This gives them extensive training in assessment and treatment of hearing loss and balance disorders for all age groups. They are regulated health professionals and can prescribe hearing aids.

Hearing Instrument Specialist have a college level degree and are trained to support hearing needs of the adult population. They can test and recommend hearing aids but require a doctor or audiologist to complete the prescription.

At Local Care Hearing Services, these two professions work collaboratively both contributing positively to the success of their clients.

What hearing aid is best for me?

There are many different types of hearing aids and advantages and disadvantages of each. Our team is here to educate you on your available options and will help you choose the best hearing aid that fits your needs and budget. When you purchase a hearing aid, it comes with a 60-day trial period. If for any reason you are not satisfied, you can return or exchange it during that time.

Do I need a referral and how much does a hearing test cost?

Referrals are not required. We encourage curiosity, so we don’t charge for checks of hearing for adults. For children or more complex cases involving paperwork, fees may apply. Contact us to discuss.
